Mandate
As Vice-President of the European Commission, I am in charge of Internal Market, Services.
As Commissioner for Internal Market and Services, I am responsible for giving a new momentum to the Single Market while driving the Commission's initiatives in the field of financial services, public procurement, free movement of services, intellectual property and professional qualifications.
The Commission department under my political responsibility is the Internal Market and Services Directorate General (DG MARKT). The Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market (OHIM) is also under my authority.

What DG MARKT is responsible for
The Internal Market and Services Directorate General works under my political guidance to enable citizens and businesses to benefit from an integrated, dynamic and secure single market. Its central mission is to secure ever greater European market integration and to seek the removal of obstacles to the free movement of services and capital and to the freedom of establishment.
In addition to these general responsibilities, the Internal Market and Services Directorate General is charged with developing the Single Market and implementing an European legal framework in these specific sectors:
- Financial services
- Postal services
- Regulated professions
- Public procurement
- Intellectual property
- Company law, accounting and auditing
